State Theater Redevelopment - Journal Square, Jersey City, NJ

Picture
The State Theater was one of three theaters in the Journal Square area of Jersey City.  In its heyday, the State Theater was busy and vibrant.  Unfortunately, like most urban theaters it had outlived its usefulness. While the Loews was saved by a restoration corp. and the Stanley Theater was purchased and renovated by the Jehovah Witnesses, as their regional Center, the State Theater had come to the end of line.

Seeing the change in the area and the need for quality housing the property was brokered to a long time businessman in the Journal square area, Lowell Harwood, Owner of the Square Ramp, former Chairmen of Square Industries and Vice Chair of Central Parking.  The property was rezoned as a redevelopment area and the theater was demolished. A new Residential tower, that has enhanced the Square, was built in its place.
